Stories and Outcomes Blog Volunteering brings me a sense of joy and fulfillment. Getting Started At Yorkshire Building Society, each colleague is given the opportunity to volunteer up to 31 hours a year, and I wanted to make the most of that time by supporting a local charity that truly makes a difference. During my research, I came across Hope into Action, and after learning more about your incredible work, I felt truly inspired to reach out. The Experience Through our volunteer hours, we've had the privilege of supporting various projects, including decorating—such as painting and wallpaper removal—deep cleaning, and gardening. It's been incredibly rewarding to contribute to creating brighter, more welcoming spaces for those who need them. I think the most impactful difference came from working on the garden—it was truly a dramatic transformation. When we started, the grass and weeds were hip height, but by the end, the entire space looked refreshed and so much more inviting. It was incredibly rewarding to see the change. Beyond that, one of the highlights was visiting the office and meeting the amazing staff. We even had the chance to sit down with a few of them over lunch, which gave us a wonderful opportunity to connect, hear their stories, and truly appreciate the work they do. It was such a lovely experience. The most meaningful part of this experience is knowing that our efforts are making a real difference in someone's life—creating positive change that will hopefully support them in the long run. It's incredibly rewarding to know that the work we do today can have a lasting impact. Impact and Growth This experience has given me a deeper appreciation for everything I have and how fortunate I am to be in my current position. It has also reinforced the importance of kindness, as you never truly know the struggles someone has faced or is still going through. A small act of compassion can make a world of difference. I've come to realise how much I thrive in an active role, and it's made me consider volunteering outside my work hours. Connection and Community For me, being part of a charity community gives me a deep sense of purpose and fulfilment. Knowing that my efforts have made a real difference brings me genuine happiness and a greater appreciation for life. It reminds me of the power of kindness and the impact even small actions can have on others Alisia (with the Peterborough team) is truly inspiring. She pours so much effort into everything she does, always ensuring that we are supported and cared for. Her dedication goes beyond expectations. It's clear how much she loves her job and how passionate she is about creating positive change. On top of that, she's an incredible baker, and I've been lucky enough to enjoy some of her delicious creations. Reflection and Encouragement I would wholeheartedly encourage anyone to go for it! There are countless ways to get involved in volunteering, meaning there’s an opportunity for everyone, no matter their skills or interests. The most rewarding part is knowing that even the smallest task can create a meaningful, positive impact. By the end of the day, you walk away feeling happier, fulfilled, and with a real sense of accomplishment. First and foremost, I believe it's an incredible cause, and beyond that, I genuinely have so much fun. Volunteering alongside my amazing co-workers makes the experience even better—it's a fantastic team-building activity that strengthens our bond while making a meaningful impact. Most importantly, it brings me a sense of joy and fulfilment, and I truly love that feeling Manage Cookie Preferences
