Stories and Outcomes Blog Empowering Churches to End Homelessness Empowering churches to end homelessness You may have noticed that Hope into Action has changed the strapline which appears on our logo. It used to be Enabling churches to house the homeless and has become Empowering churches to end homelessness. This is not a full re-brand, but an update to summarise our mission which we will introduce gradually as digital and printed materials are updated. Words are important and we wanted to capture Hope into Action’s work in a nutshell. We wanted to move away from using the term ‘the homeless’ because we believe homelessness is a circumstance that affects a diverse range of people rather than someone's identity. And in this update, I wanted to unpack each word in our strapline to our valued supporters: Empowering: Empowerment is a key concept for Hope into Action - our frontline staff are called Empowerment Workers and our online system where we record all our tenant information is called EMPOWER. We want our work to empower tenants, investors, supporters, and churches to put Christian hope into action! Churches: We believe in the church and its unique mission to share the grace and love of Jesus to a broken world. We want to see every church playing a role in bringing hope to those who are marginalised. Every house we open is in partnership with a local church who offer friendship and community to our tenants. This is the distinctive ‘secret sauce’ of our work that your support enables to happen. To end homelessness: Since Hope into Action started, we have seen hundreds of people end their homelessness through the love and support of local churches, made possible by supporters like you. We believe that homelessness ends in community. It’s not just through providing people accommodation, it’s about helping them re-build meaningful relationships and renewing a positive sense of identity. So thank you! Your support is helping to empower churches to end homelessness. We would love to see you at our conference on 20th May in Milton Keynes where we will be exploring the roots of our organisation with our founder, Ed Walker MBE, and also with Krish Kandiah OBE, speaking about the biblical roots of our work. Book your tickets to Rooted: Homelessness Ends in Community Thanks for your support and we hope to see you on 20th May. Jon Kuhrt, CEO, Hope into Action Manage Cookie Preferences
