Finding my footing again: Toby's experience "I never expected to find myself without a home. My landlord ran into financial difficulties and had to sell the house I was living in. Just like that, I lost a place to live. I moved in with my mum and stepdad for a few months, then spent about six months in a hostel in Norwich. It wasn't an easy time, but I was fortunate that my stepdad's church knew about Hope into Action. Through that connection, I made an application, was accepted, and moved into one of their properties. From the beginning, the experience was really smooth and easy. Everyone I met was genuinely nice and helpful. I worked with a few different caseworkers throughout my time there, and they were all great. Charlotte, my last caseworker, really stood out - I felt she went over and above and I am grateful for everything she did. I'll be honest, I didn't need a lot of intensive support. But what Hope into Action gave me was exactly what I needed: a steady place to live while I got myself back on track. That stability allowed me to find a job, save money, and eventually get back to renting my own place again. When it came time to move on, Charlotte was instrumental in helping me make that transition. She started looking for properties and sending them to me. I'm not sure if the house I ended up with was one she actually sent, but she got me into the habit of looking. I had a job, I'd saved enough for my deposit and first month's rent, it was time. Charlotte's behind-the-scenes efforts, spending her own time looking for properties and getting me into the mindset that it was time to move forward, made all the difference. It's very hard to overcome life's challenges on your own. Having an organisation like Hope into Action that will step in and support you in every aspect of your life - helping with council housing lists, finances, budgeting, understanding the rental process - it gives you a leg up that you wouldn't always have. For someone like me who had experience living on my own and managing properties, the transition was relatively straightforward. But I recognise that for many people, knowing how to manage bills, budget properly, and navigate the application process can be overwhelming. That's where Hope into Action's team really shines - they help with all of it. Today, I'm in my own rental home again, working, and feeling secure. Hope into Action gave me the stability I needed to rebuild, and I'm grateful for their support every step of the way." Manage Cookie Preferences
