Reaching into the heart of Norwich and making changes to individuals affected by homelessness.

Norwich Today!

Hope into Action is a registered charity whose unique purpose is to enable churches to house the homeless. Work began in summer 2010 with a handful of people passionate about changing the lives of people experiencing homelessness. Since 2010, Hope into Action has continued to grow, expanding right across the UK including in Norwich.

Hope into Action Norwich began when UK founder Ed Walker's Mum and Godmother were prayer walking around Norwich, praying for a partner church to come forward and begin the project in the city. St Stephen's Church became the first partner church in Norwich, and remain a partner today, still funding and supporting a house there.

As of November 2024, Hope into Action Norwich have 12 houses that are occupied, 1 about to be signed off to female refugees and another awaiting a refurbishment. We have 9 partner churches and have 36 bed spaces currently, with a further 6 to be added when the 2 new properties are signed off.

We are committed to supporting people who have experienced homelessness in Norwich.

Meet the team

Debs Green

Norwich Team Lead

Hi, I'm Debs.  I joined Hope into Action in April 2019 as an Empowerment Worker. In April 2022, I had the privilege of taking on the role as Norwich City Lead.

As an Empowerment Worker I loved the depth of trust that could be established with our tenants. As a City Lead, it’s a privilege to be able to empower and see churches realise their potential to house the homeless and to work with an amazing team who give their all for God and their tenants.

Rach Hartley

Church & Tenant Empowerment Worker

Hi, I’m Rach and have worked for HIA Norwich for the last 8 years as an Empowerment worker. It’s an amazing job, working holistically with people to empower them to make positive changes in their lives.

It’s a privilege to walk alongside those often overlooked by society and to see them claim their lives back again. We get to witness God at work and that’s a joy. When I’m not working, I’m happiest hanging out with my family, walking my dogs on the beach and swimming in the North sea!

Katie Walker

Church & Tenant Empowerment Worker

I Joined Hope Into Action in 2023 as operations and office administrator. After gaining experience within the charity I made the switch to become an empowerment worker.

Since then I have had the privilege of supporting individuals in their personal journeys, helping them build confidence and achieve their goals. Outside of work I'm a mum who loves busy weekends with friends and family.

Jonny Goldsmith

Church & Tenant Empowerment Worker

Hi, my name is Jonny and I joined Hope Into Action in March 2025 as an Empowerment Worker. Previously to this I was working as a Design Engineer within the construction industry, so this has been a bit of a career change for me, but I just absolutely love what I do now. It really is a privilege to be a part of their journey and seeing significant changes in their lives along the way. When I'm not working, I am more than likely to be at the river or lake with my son (and sometimes wife) for a spot of fishing, I am very much a family man and we love spending time together.

We are hiring!
